BIO
- Andrew Munoz |
Andrew M. Munoz was born and grew up in Santa Monica, California, amongst the Ocean Park surf and Dogtown skating culture. Ever since he was young, he would draw upon scenes of people ranging from friends camping out, to fighting, to acts of violence and intimate moments amongst friends. Whether they were harsh visualizations of the pressures of life or fun times hanging with friends, these scenes would manifest themselves in his art in a positive and almost comical manner.
His parents were adamant about Andrew being outdoors while growing up because of the constant surrounding beauty that is Los Angeles. From the many sides of Downtown L.A. with its historic and often eclectic architecture, to the hipster beach neighborhoods of the west side of Los Angeles, he witnessed it all while skating and running around the streets with friends. Andrew connects all of these events and sceneries together to form larger bodies of work that are vibrantly colored representations of his artistic expression.
His contemporary style of painting comes from his "doodle" varieties of drawing when he wasn’t paying attention in class throughout his elementary through high school education. He honed his artistic skills while graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his vision evolved while focusing on his unique style. Each of Andrew's paintings reflect his evolutionary process of not knowing his end product when he commences each work. This type of artistic improvisation gives another dimension of creativity to his paintings while creating a distinct and vibrant canvas.
Andrew currently resides in Venice, CA.
